Length: 20 minutes
Materials: construction paper (folded and precut with two or more flaps), pencils, crayons, markers, vocabulary word list, ,
Goal: Given this, the student will be able to demonstrate their understanding of vocabulary terms.
Items:

What to do

  1. Distribute the precut flipbooks. Each book has flaps (depending on the student's level).
  2. Students will select the number of vocabulary words to match the number of flaps on their flipbooks.
  3. Students will write the word on the outside flap, write a sentence or definition on the inside of that flap, and then draw a picture that represents that vocabulary word. All work can be done in pencil, markers, crayons, chalk, etc...

I attended a professional development presented by McGraw Hill. The representative shared various activities with the teachers. This activity caught my eye. I have been using this activity in all of the subject areas. It makes a wonderful assessment tool, and the children love it.
