What to do

  1. Have all participating students form pairs. One student will act as the swatter, and the other will act as the caller.
  2. The swatter chooses a word from the wall and swats it with the swatter, displaying the word to the caller.
  3. The caller must say the word within three counts. If he or she does, give the caller a chip and repeat the word to reinforce it.
  4. Play continues until the caller has five chips; then the swatter becomes the caller.
  5. If the caller does not say the word correctly, take an opportunity to reinforce some of the skills you are teaching with this set of words. If the student continues to have trouble, you may wish to make a note in an Activity Log.
